Catching up

"It's easier to keep up than to catch up."
 -Anonymous

Well it's been awhile....let's catch up....

Coming home from Florida (AKA "going to hell in a hand basket"):

1. The day before we (me and Lily) left marked the beginning of the Great Flooding of Texas 2015. I knew we would get stuck in Houston because I ALWAYS GET STUCK IN HOUSTON!

2. I wake up with the WORST migraine, but flights go well until, of course, we start to make our way to Houston.

3. The flight from Florida to Houston was supposed to take two hours, we were about 20 minuets out before things took a turn.

4. Houston airport isn't taking any planes due to weather, but we don't have enough fuel to just fligh around waiting so we have to land to get more fuel.

5. If we had just a bit more fuel we would have just flown to Corpus to refuel (which would have been perfect for us, because that was our destination), BUT it doesn't. So, we fly to New Orleans.

6. We sit on the plane ( if we get off we are "no longer their responsibility"). Wait. Refuel. When we go to leave to go to Houston but then get told we will have to take the long way around the storm, which, of course, we don't have enough fuel still for.

7. We return to refuel for the SECOND time. We FINALLY make it to Houston after a two hour flight turns into SEVEN.

8. Of course at this point there are no more flights, but we really want to be home so we go to the costumer Service people, and as we walk up to the desk THEIR ENTIRE SYSTEM COMPLETELY GOES DOWN.

9. Okay, so we wait and decide to get some food (because our flight had no snacks and no SKYMALL!). It was awful and everything was closing.

10. Systems still not working, so we just go get a hotel.

11. The motel has a free shuttle and when we ask what time the shuttle will be there in the morning to take us back to the airport we are told that the shuttle driver for tomorrow morning is sick, so we have to pay for a cab....great.

12. Flash forward, we make it home, but not without a cherry on top....As we are driving home home my car (I asked Bruce to bring the toaster to fit all the luggage) decides it's done working and every light comes on, the AC goes out, and it feels like it's about to die any minuet. (shout out: thank you Carter for fixing and cleaning it!!)

Since I have been back:

Bruce and I have done lots of fun stuff that we are going to blog about on our couple's blog thecouplect.blogspot.com once he gets back from his business trip in College Station.

I've sampled a lot.

Started swimming .

Isaac (one of my kitties) has feline acne.... lol O the teenage years....

Binged on Supernatural, Doctor Who, and movies with Bruce that I'll discuss in on our couple blog.

Fallen in LOVE with the new Witcher game and started reading the books, again with Bruce so I'll wait to elaborate on those.

Here I come Texas!!

You May All Go To Hell,
And I Will Go To Texas.
- Davy Crockett

As great as this thesis work vacation has been, I have to say, I CAN'T WAIT TO BE BACK HOME!
It was real Florida, see ya next year.

I liked this water line pic

Science!

Science selfie!

Catchin' fish with a glove

Cute little guy was in the dorms

I got sea lice (jellyfish larvae) stings while kayaking

Key deer smiling for the camera (they are only the size of large dogs)

This is why you don't order taco salad unless you are in TX, they use CHILI instead of taco meat

Got some African dust, yay!

Thesis Work Was Had That Summer

My Love for you
Is Like a Florida Sunset,
Orange, Coral, Pink,
and Lavender, it
Exists to Warm your Heart
Through the Inevitable Darkness.
          -Jarod Kintz

So for almost 3 weeks now I have been living at the Mote Marine Lab in the Florida Keys working on my thesis work. For more info. about exactly what I'm doing visit www.traceskeysresearch.wordpress.com he did a great job explaining everything and I don't feel like writing my thesis paper in a blog post. :) The jist....we are looking at heterotrophic (mainly Vibrio) and autotrophic (that's where I come in) responses to the African dust that blows over and deposits in the Gulf and Caribbean every year. So let's look at some pictures of my trip as of late....

Went kayaking with Alina and saw the largest iguana ever, you can't really tell but he is as long as I am tall.

Kayaking again, some sort of something that looked cool.

Gremley has a boat named after her kind!

Too cute! Florida has feral chickens

Yes please!

Sponge monster

Cat Man! If this doesn't work out I know what job I'l try next

Sunset

Caught me a ghost on a ghost tour!

This cat was literally sitting the exact same way last summer when we were here!

They are all over the place, whatever they are.

This Time....It's For Real!

Welcome to my blog! I have tried to start I don't know how many blogs, but this time....it's for real (at least it better be because I actually bought a cheap blog template off Etsy to give me an incentive to get my money's worth). My name is Kels, I live in Texas now, but I'm from all over (army brat). My family is mainly from Oklahoma though. I have a super boyfriend, Bruce, who I have been with almost 7 years (we are staring a blog together, The Couplect at couplect.blogspot.com). I'm working on my Master's in Biology (biological oceanography), and I really love phytoplankton so you should really check them out (I love Ceratium, so cute!). I love cats, like crazy cat lady level. I have three of my own (Pickles, Isaac, and Gremley), and countless Feral Friends I take care of. I am very much in the SuperWhoLock fandom, and love all things B sci-fi and horror, the crappier the better! So I    guess I'm not really going into this with any theme in mind, so we'll see what evolves.

 ENJOY!
